This morning I read from Matthew 14 and I was struck by the radical difference between Christ and myself. Herod noticed the rising fame of Jesus. The crowds were growing due to Christ's teachings and miracles. And yet we find Jesus running to the "desolate place" (14:13) and to the "mountain by himself to pray" (14:22).
So often in my meager "successes" I embrace the crowd, embrace the success, relish the "fame". Jesus however embraced His Father! He turned to the desolate place or the mountain to be alone with His Father! And yet it is in that desolate place that Jesus feeds over 5000 people! It is after that prayer time with the Father that Jesus walks on water and heals the many!
It is my prayer that the Lord would teach me to continually embrace the Father rather than the crowd. It is my belief that it is only through the embracing of my Father that the "crowds" can be "touched".
